REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
Rehabilitation Of Eight (08) Hand Pump Boreholes in Lokori and Lobalangit Sub-Counties, Karenga District
The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) invites requests for proposals (RFPs) from qualified organizations to rehabilitate hand pump boreholes in Karenga district in a bid to relieve water resources from animal pressure.
Background
AWF is an international conservation organization working to ensure wildlife and wild lands thrive in modern Africa. In Uganda, AWF supports community-based conservation initiatives that integrate conservation with sustainable livelihoods.
The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), in collaboration with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) & local government, plans to rehabilitate eight (08) boreholes within communities of Lokori & Lobalangit sub-counties in Karenga district. This intervention is part of AWF's broader effort to enhance coexistence between people & wildlife, increase ecosystem & livelihood resilience, & reduce human-wildlife conflicts through improved access to reliable water sources.
Borehole malfunctions in areas near Kidepo National Park (like neighboring districts in Uganda) intensify pressure on natural water sources, forcing wildlife and communities to rely more heavily on rivers, pans, and wetlands, leading to increased competition, potential water quality issues from crowding, and ecosystem stress, especially during dry seasons when these resources are already scarce, as seen in regional water crises.
